Before you begin using a medication, be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or Allergies you may have, any medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and any other significant facts about your health.
Birth control: Women taking Nerlynx (Neratinib) should use effective birth control (e.g., condoms, birth control pill) during treatment and for at least 1 month after treatment is finished. Men who have female partners of childbearing age should use effective birth control for at least 3 months after the final dose of Nerlynx (Neratinib).
If you or your partner become pregnant during treatment with Nerlynx (Neratinib), contact your doctor immediately.
Diarrhea: Nerlynx (Neratinib) can cause diarrhea that can lead to dehydration. Dehydration can cause many symptoms, including decreased urine production, dry and sticky mouth, sleepiness, dizziness, headache, thirst, and confusion. In some cases, dehydration can become a medical emergency. Your doctor will prescribe another medication to help prevent diarrhea. Heart problems: Nerlynx (Neratinib) may contribute to heart problems, particularly if you have a history of a heart condition, such as Congestive Heart Failure or a past Heart Attack. If you are at risk of developing heart problems, discuss with your doctor how Nerlynx (Neratinib) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Nerlynx (Neratinib), and whether any special monitoring is needed. If you experience symptoms of heart failure, such as increased difficulty breathing, swelling in the feet and ankles, unusual tiredness or a persistent cough, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Liver problems: Liver disease or reduced liver function may cause Nerlynx (Neratinib) to build up in the body, causing side effects. If you have liver problems, discuss with your doctor how Nerlynx (Neratinib) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Nerlynx (Neratinib), and whether any special monitoring is needed.
Nerlynx (Neratinib) can cause reduced liver function and can cause liver failure, which may be life-threatening. If you experience symptoms of liver problems such as fatigue, feeling unwell, loss of appetite, nausea, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, dark urine, pale stools, abdominal pain or swelling, and itchy skin, contact your doctor immediately.
Pregnancy: Nerlynx (Neratinib) should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while taking Nerlynx (Neratinib), contact your doctor immediately.
Breast-feeding: It is not known if Nerlynx (Neratinib) passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are taking Nerlynx (Neratinib), it may affect your baby. Women should not breast feed while taking Nerlynx (Neratinib) and for at least 1 month after taking the last dose.
Children: The safety and effectiveness of using Nerlynx (Neratinib) have not been established for children.
Seniors: People over the age of 65 are more likely to experience side effects from taking Nerlynx (Neratinib). Depending on how well the medication is tolerated, your doctor may reduce the dose you are taking.
