Before you begin using Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate), be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or Allergies you may have, any medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and any other significant facts about your health. These factors may affect how you should use Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate).
Absorption: When betamethasone valerate is used over extensive areas for prolonged periods, it is possible that enough medication will absorb into the bloodstream to cause unwanted side effects. It is advisable to use betamethasone valerate for brief periods of time only and to stop using it as soon as the problem clears. Do not use Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate) under dressings or bandages that do not breathe.
Infections: Topical corticosteroids may increase the risk of developing a skin infection. Contact your doctor if you notice any increased redness, swelling, heat, or pain around the area where the medication is applied, as these are possible signs of infection.
Thinning of skin: Using topical corticosteroid medications for a long period of time can cause skin to thin or soften or cause stretch marks. Your doctor may recommend that you stop using Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate) once in a while. Suddenly stopping corticosteroid medication may cause psoriasis to return.
Pregnancy: Betamethasone valerate foam should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. When it is used during pregnancy, the smallest amount should be used for the shortest time. If you become pregnant while using Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate), contact your doctor immediately.
Breast-feeding: It is not known if betamethasone valerate passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are using Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate), it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.
Children: The safety and effectiveness of using betamethasone valerate foam has not been established for children and adolescents less than 18 years of age.
Seniors (65 years or older): Seniors may be more at risk of experiencing side effects when using Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate) and should use the lowest amount of Luxiq (Betamethasone-valerate) possible.
