Birth control: Hormonal birth control, such as birth control pills, increase the risk of developing blood clots. Taking tranexamic acid along with birth control may increase your risk of developing blood clots. If you are using a form of hormonal birth control, discuss with your doctor how Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid), and whether any special monitoring is needed.
Blood clots: Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid) increases the chance of blood clot formation, causing reduction of blood flow to organs or the extremities.
If you have a history of clotting you may be at increased risk of experiencing blood clot-related problems such as heart attack, stroke, or clots in the deep veins of your leg. Discuss with your doctor how Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid), and whether any special monitoring is needed.
If you experience symptoms such as sharp pain and swelling in the leg, difficulty breathing, chest pain, blurred vision, or difficulty speaking, contact your doctor immediately.
Drowsiness/reduced alertness: Tranexamic acid may cause drowsiness or dizziness, affecting your ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid these and other hazardous tasks until you have determined how Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid) affects you.
Vision changes: Regular use of tranexamic acid may cause changes in vision. This can include blurred vision, changed colour recognition, or a change in the field of vision. If you experience any changes to your vision while taking Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid), contact your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor may want you to have an eye examination before starting Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid), so changes to vision can be identified.
Pregnancy: Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid) should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid), contact your doctor immediately.
Breast-feeding: Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid) passes into breast milk in very small amounts. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are taking tranexamic acid, it may affect your baby. Research has shown that it is probably safe for the baby to breast feed while you are taking Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid), however you may wish to talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.
Children: The safety and effectiveness of using Cyklokapron (Tranexamic-acid) to treat heavy menstrual flow in adolescent girls have not been established.
